How can we believe Landis now?

I just have only one question (for Floyd Landis). Why, after so many years of his lies, should we now believe him? The people of California, primarily Riverside County, have put their faith in him and backed and supported him in his defense of being falsely accused of "doping" during the Tour de France in 2006.

He now states that "I don't want to be part of the problem anymore." ("Landis admits to doping, accuses Armstrong of same," May 21). It appears to me that he is the problem, with his four years of lying to us. By compounding the issue, he is now trying to discredit others, including probably the best person in this sport, Lance Armstrong, who also supported him

Not only is he trying to discredit so many, but he is severely damaging the sport itself. Along with others, I just don't understand why he is doing this, considering how the sport has been so good to him up until now.

More senior, unbiased writers

I see that The Californian has decided to move over to the lame media side and has selected columnists all slanting left and anti-Arizona. You have ... writers (like) Miguel Perez spouting the anti-Arizona ethnic profiling crap. None of them, like our president and attorney general, have read the law. The law merely mirrors the federal law, which has been in effect but not enforced for years, except it more clearly outlaws "racial profiling."

Added to these, you have added Froma Harrop and Ruth Marcus, a couple of biased, left Democrats preaching the Democrat playbook. If I wanted such biased left reporting, I would subscribe to the Los Angeles or New York Times. Please, more of Michael Barone, George Will and other senior, unbiased writers.

Quarry no good for Riverside County

Last Wednesday evening, after making a trip to the store, I mentioned to my wife that I smelled smoke. Sure enough, the May 20 Californian confirmed there was a small brushfire on Camp Pendleton.

If the smell of smoke can be carried on the breeze from such a distance, why should we believe that odors from Granite's quarry won't follow the same path? Whether it is the stench of an asphalt plant, the fumes from hundreds of trucks or the silica dust that area physicians are concerned about, all these will blow right up the valley like smoke from Pendleton's fire. Nothing Granite can do will change the direction the wind blows, and there is no justification for their polluting the air we all breathe.

This quarry operation is no good for the residents of the south county, regardless of whatever b.s. Granite and their mindless followers might toss in our direction. I have yet to hear from any proponent of this fiasco where all the water is going to come from to operate these unwanted and unnecessary plants. And please, don't waste your time disputing this letter unless you can answer that question.
