SAN DIEGO - Coast Guard crews from San Diego Saturday helped rescue three people after the 29-foot sailboat they were on ran aground on Santa Barbara Island, officials said.
The Coast Guard Los Angeles/Long Beach sector received a "mayday" call from the boat, La Lancha Dolce, at 4:15 a.m., said Petty Officer 1st Class Robert Lanier.
The boat had run aground at the base of a cliff, Lanier said.
Two of the boaters were spotted on the rocks, Lanier said, and the third person was in the water.
The Coast Guard crew from San Diego airlifted the boaters who were on land, and Los Angeles-based Coast Guard personnel rescued the person in the water, Lanier said.
The boaters were taken to a hospital, but condition reports were not immediately available.
