Cesar Carrillo, the Padres' first pick in last month's amateur draft, had a reputation as one of the most polished pitchers in college baseball. Now Carrillo will have an opportunity to prove just how polished he is.

The right-hander from the University of Miami agreed to a contract Friday that includes a $1.55 million bonus, and on Monday he is scheduled to report to the Storm.

"Looking at his record at a top program like Miami shows how advanced he is as a player," said Jeff Kingston, the Padres' director of baseball operations. "We feel confident that he can step in and pitch at a high level."

Carrillo, the 18th overall selection, went 13-3 with a 2.22 ERA as a junior to earn Atlantic Coast Conference pitcher of the year honors. He won his first 24 decisions as a collegian, the fourth-longest streak in Division I history.

He will attend tonight's game against San Francisco at Petco Park.

The Padres also agreed to terms with third baseman Chase Headley, a second-round pick from Tennessee; catcher Nicholas Hundley, a second-rounder from Arizona; right-hander Joshua Greer, a third-rounder from Rice; and outfielder Joshua Alley, a 10th-rounder from Tennessee. Only two of the team's first 12 choices remain unsigned.
