The Padres are showing interest in Japanese pitcher Kazuo Fukumori. The club brought the right-handed reliever in for a workout at Petco Park last week.
Fukumori, who has a 34-42 career record with a 3.68 ERA, had elbow surgery for the second time last July but has reportedly been cleared by doctors. He also had surgery in 1998 after he dislocated his right elbow.
A starter early in his career, Fukumori switched to the bullpen in 2003 and was a closer for Rakuten. He reportedly throws a slider, a knuckle curveball and a fastball in the low 90s with good movement.
Kansas City, Colorado, Boston and Tampa Bay also reportedly have shown interest.
