Former North County resident Brent Boyd, whose battle with the NFL Players Association over disability benefits due to a 1980 head injury was recently chronicled in the North County Times, accepted an invitation Monday to tell his story in front of a congressional oversight group in Washington on June 26.
Boyd, a former Minnesota Vikings offensive lineman who now lives in Reno, Nev., will be one of four former players called to testify in front of the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Commercial and Administrative Law, which is looking into how the NFL and NFLPA handle disability claims. Also testifying will be Pro Football Hall of Famers Mike Ditka and Harry Carson as well as former Oakland Raiders lineman Curt Marsh.
"I'm excited for the opportunity to tell my story," Boyd said. "I have the documents and the medical evidence. All I have to do is stand up there and tell the truth. The burden is going to be on them to come back with their B.S."
Boyd suffers from chronic dizziness, fatigue, headaches and depression that he says stems from a concussion in a 1980 preseason contest.
