SAN DIEGO -- Gyno Pomare, a former El Camino High standout, scored 16 points, Brandon Johnson added 15 and Rob Jones led a decisive second-half run to lead the University of San Diego men's basketball team to a 71-62 exhibition win over Occidental College.
Jones scored six points during a 16-5 run to start the second half and stretch San Diego's 32-28 halftime lead to 48-33 with 13:37 left. The closest Occidental got the rest of the game was on Huston Conti's 3-pointer with 35.7 seconds remaining that pulled the Tigers to within 69-62.

Figure skating
World champion Brian Joubert of France won Skate Canada, hours after U.S. ice dancer Melissa Gregory was injured in a fall at Quebec City. Kevin Van Der Perren of Belgium edged Joubert in the free skate and finished second overall, while Canadian champion Jeff Buttle was third. Gregory was responsive and alert in a hospital after a scary accident during the warmup for the free dance. A CT scan showed the head and neck areas clear, and it was expected she'd be released later Sunday.

He was 80. … Lillian Ellison, professional wrestling's Fabulous Moolah, died Friday. She was 84.
