An revised tie breaker scenario involving the Palomar College softball team ended with the Comets gaining the Pacific Coast Conference's automatic bid into the Southern California Regional playoffs on Thursday.
Originally a three-way playoff between Palomar, San Diego City and Grossmont was scheduled to determine the conference's automatic bid, with Grossmont facing the winner of a game between the Knights and Comets. The winner from there would have gained the conference's automatic berth.
But according to a Palomar spokesperson, the conference decided on Thursday morning that head-to-head records would determine the bid winner. Palomar, which lost to San Diego City 9-3, then beat Grossmont 7-2, emerged with the best head-to-head records of the three teams, thus earning the berth.
