SAN DIEGO -- The San Diego Slam is officially on the shelf -- for this year at least.
Joe Moeller, president of the San Diego Sports Council which puts on the event, said Friday that the men's college basketball event will not be played in 2007 because it could not secure a high-quality opponent.
"Basketball is as tough an intercollegiate sport to schedule as there is," Moeller said. "There were teams we could have scheduled, but we didn't want to deliver an event that wasn't up to the standard we'd previously set."
In its previous three years of existence, the four-team event was highlighted by San Diego State games against California, Washington State and Arizona.
The Aztecs are still looking to fill one more game on their nonconference schedule.
