Lance Sewell allowed just three hits in eight innings to help the San Diego State baseball team beat 29th-ranked Baylor 6-2 Sunday on the final day of the Pacific State Bank Tiger Classic at Klein Family Field in Stockton.

Sewell (3-0) allowed two runs and struck out a career-high 11 for the Aztecs (11-9).

Sewell's only rough spell came in the second inning, when the Bears (9-6) loaded the bases on a single and a pair of walks with two outs. Chase Gerdes then hit a blooper to left that just eluded a diving Troy Hanzawa, who almost ran the ball down from his shortstop position. Sewell retired 15 of the final 16 hitters he faced.

Freshman Stephen Strasburg pitched the ninth for the Aztecs, allowing a single and striking out two.

Hanzawa, Brandon Glover, Frank LoNigro, Brian Lucas and Garett Green had two hits apiece for the Aztecs.

San Diego State hosts the Tony Gwynn 2007 Classic next weekend with a field that includes Michigan, Oklahoma and the University of San Diego. The Aztecs will open against Oklahoma at 6 p.m. Friday at Tony Gwynn Stadium.
