TEMECULA - Siaki Cravens has a big heart. That wasn't enough to overcome Canyon Country Canyon and its big, 6-foot-9 center Cody Anderson.

Cravens made his final high school game a memorable one, going for 26 points and 12 rebounds, and keeping the Golden Bears in the contest with a 13-point third quarter. Canyon countered with an impressive performance by Anderson, who put the Cowboys on his shoulders and hoisted them to a 78-60 victory in a CIF Southern Section Division II-AA wild-card game at Temecula Valley High School.

Anderson signed a National Letter of Intent to Montana State during the early signing period, and flashed a game ready for the next level as he exploited the smaller Bears by hitting 11 of 18 field goals on his way to 25 points, 12 rebounds and three blocked shots.

"They weren't too big and we saw that right off the bat," Anderson said. "We were a little nervous early on, playing without our starting point guard. It took us a while to get going, for our shooters to start hitting."

Temecula Valley (13-13) was missing 6-4 senior forward Matt Rosser, who hurt his knee during practice in the final week of the regular season and hasn't played since. Devin Dyer finished with 20 points, three rebounds, two assists and two steals for the Golden Bears.

In the third quarter, Cravens was at his best, powering his way to a back-to-back 3-point plays early in the quarter as the Cowboys (14-13) tried to pull away. Cravens also scored on a nice baseline drive that he finished with a left-handed hook, and was on the spot when Dyer missed a layup to flush a follow slam.

"It's always hard for the season to end," said Cravens, who has signed to play football at Utah. "This is a hard pill to swallow. Playing for this team, and for Coach (Rico) Thompson, was a pleasure. We went through a lot of ups and downs, but we're like a family. And when the season ends it's like you're breaking up the family."

Anderson scored 12 points in the third quarter.

Canyon was without Mark Lewis (ankle), but got a nice game from sophomore point guard Erik Gould (six points, three assists), who fed Ryan Snyder for a 3-pointer that put the Cowboys up by 14 points late in the third quarter. Cravens and Dyer had one last run in them, combining for eight unanswered points to draw within 58-53 with 5:34 remaining.

With Anderson on the bench, tending to a scratch on his shoulder that was dripping blood, Canyon put together a 10-3 run that placed the game on ice. Mike Edwards scored all 15 of his points in the fourth quarter.

"Erik distributed the ball well for us," Canyon coach Chad Phillips said. "But Cody had a great third quarter. He gave us a cushion there, which we needed."
