Twelve Valley football players are slated to be honored Sunday night at the National Football Foundation Riverside County Chapter's scholar-athlete banquet.

The banquet will be held at The Country Club at Soboba Springs.

Twenty-two players overall from Riverside County will be honored. The Valley's honorees are Zach Dilley (Paloma Valley), Tyler Fahrion (Linfield Christian), Mitch Glasmann (Chaparral), John Hardy (Vista Murrieta), Kyle Linton (Lakeside), Nathan Matlock (Murrieta Valley), Richard Mayorga (West Valley), Trevor Nordby (Elsinore), Maurice Rodriguez (Temescal Canyon), Bryce Rood (Great Oak), Ben Thompson (Temecula Valley) and Colton Walsh (Calvary Murrieta).

The featured speakers slated to appear are former Norco and Stanford running back Toby Gerhart, the runner-up in the Heisman Trophy voting last fall, and former Minnesota Vikings offensive lineman Ron Yary.

The chapter will also be honoring former Moreno Valley coach and area basketball and football referee Rocky Ford.

Corder to Cal Poly Pomona

Murrieta Valley senior Heather Corder will sign a letter of intent to Cal Poly Pomona, girls coach Matt Farmer confirmed.

Corder is the defending Southwestern League 100-meter hurdles champ and has the fastest time in the state in this young season (14.64) and fourth fastest ever in the Valley.

Baseball finals at The Diamond

The Southern Section baseball finals will reportedly be held at The Diamond this year on June 5.

Divisions I, II, III, and IV will play in Lake Elsinore, while the other divisions will be contested at UC Riverside.

Dodger Stadium and Angel Stadium, which are past hosts, both have conflicts on that date. The Diamond's tennant, the Storm , are on a four-game road trip to Modesto that week.
