Former Temecula Valley pitcher Brooks Pounders led a list of four Valley players who were honored when CalHiSports.com released its all-state baseball lists Friday.
Pounders, a 6-foot-6, 225-pound right-hander, was selected in the second round of last month's Major League Baseball amateur draft by the Pittsburgh Pirates. On Friday, he was named as a first-team selection to CalHi's all-state baseball team.
Pounders, the Southwestern League MVP, went 9-2 with a 1.96 ERA and 91 strikeouts in 64 1/3 innings. He also hit .400, with seven home runs and 25 RBIs.
Two area players made a separate, small-schools all-state list. Andrew Morovick, who led Tahquitz to the CIF SS semifinals was chosen, as was Baptist Christian's Brett Haringa.
Temecula Valley pitcher Taylor Turski, who is entering his junior year, was named to the second team, all-state underclassmen team.
