SAN DIEGO -- Cathedral Catholic's Tyler Gaffney ran for seven touchdowns to tie a CIF San Diego Section record as the Dons beat Scripps Ranch to move their win streak to 17 games.
The win gives the second-ranked Dons the Eastern League title as they improve to 10-0 overall and 5-0 in league. Scripps Ranch drops to 7-3, 4-2.
Gaffney ran for 225 yards on 26 carries to lead Cathedral Catholic. The senior said he threw up five times on the sidelines during the game because of the flu.
"He is just not going to slow down," said Cathedral Catholic coach Sean Doyle. "He is not going to give up. He is good. Very good."
Gaffney, who now has 1,944 yards rushing, said he couldn't have done it without his offensive line.
"For some reason it takes us a few series' to get things going but once they do, they are amazing," Gaffney said. "They pick up the defense quick and they are always improving."
Other players scoring touchdowns for the Dons were Alan Conklin, Jonny Martin, and Josh Jacko. Kicker Roman Ferriera kicked nine extra points to give him 67 on the year.
Michigan-bound senior Tate Forcier of Scripps Ranch threw for four touchdowns to go with one interception and 21-of-36 passing for 292 yards in the losing effort.
