After helping Cathedral Catholic to its second consecutive CIF San Diego Section Division III baseball title this spring, Ryan Wilkins has been named first-team all-state by Cal-Hi Sports.

For his efforts as a pitcher (8-1 record, 2.33 ERA, 99 strikeouts in 66 innings) and hitter (.426 average, eight home runs, 39 RBI), Wilkins made the team as a multi-purpose player. The recent high school graduate will play for San Diego State next season.

Mission Hills outfielder Steven Packard, the North County Times Player of the Year, was another first-team selection after a campaign in which he hit .520 and led San Diego County with 46 RBIs.

Poway pitcher Keegan Yuhl, Rancho Buena Vista infielder Tony Wolters and Cathedral Catholic outfielder Tyler Gaffney were named to the second team.

In addition to the all-state honors, Wilkins was named the state player of the year for medium schools by Cal-Hi Sports. Gaffney and Cathedral Catholic teammate Matt Moynihan also made the medium schools team.

Yuhl -- a junior who went 13-1 with a 2.79 ERA and 74Ks in 70 1/3 innings -- also made the all-state underclass first team. Rancho Bernardo catcher Brad Haynal, Vista catcher Larry East and Poway infielder Josh Anderson also made the underclass first team.

Vista infielder Scott Collins made the all-state underclass second team.
