CARMEL VALLEY ---- This wasn't just an offense dressing up for Halloween.

Torrey Pines High quarterback John Cabot insisted that Friday night's showing ---- one in which his team's offense produced a season-high 495 yards ---- was simply an example of what can happen when the group works together.

A week after they were limited to 114 yards in a six-point loss to Mission Hills, the Falcons looked dangerous and multifaceted in a 27-10 Avocado League win over Fallbrook at Ed Burke Field. Torrey Pines improved to 3-4-1 in its quest to finish the season strong while attempting to secure a first-round home game in the CIF San Diego Section Division I playoffs.

"Definitely not," said Cabot, who passed for a career-high 205 yards, when asked if the performance was a one-week rental costume. "We'll be back next weekend and the week after that against La Costa Canyon. ... Everyone is starting to work together."

The Falcons had everything going on Friday. Using the QB option more often than at any time this season, Torrey Pines kept the Warriors (2-6, 1-2) on their heels all game.

When Fallbrook's defense played in zone coverage, Cabot and Ryan Rodas (five catches for 133 yards) picked it apart through the air. When the Warriors switched back to man coverage, Cabot, Joe Driscoll (91 rushing yards, TD) and John Wilson (114 rushing yards, TD) tore them up on the ground.

About the only thing that stopped Torrey Pines was itself, as the team had three turnovers.

"For four quarters definitely (that was our best)," Torrey Pines coach Scott Ashby said after watching his team jump to a 20-3 lead late in the third quarter.

Fallbrook's offense wasn't bad, either. Behind the talented duo of Earl Smith (152 total yards) and Cameron Remy (102 total yards), the Warriors amassed 339 yards. They moved the ball freely between the 20-yard lines, especially in the first half, but were slowed by the Falcons' strong pass rush in the red zone. That forced Fallbrook to settle for three long first-half field-goal attempts, with Victor Lopez connecting on a 42-yarder to make it 10-3 late in the second quarter.

"We kind of misfired all night," Fallbrook coach Joe Silvey said. "But give Torrey Pines credit. They were disruptive."

Nolan Fargo, Michael Nasland and Anthony Naser each had a sack for the Falcons, and Weston Staubus had an interception at his 4-yard line in the fourth quarter.
