Torrey Pines tied Escondido 21-21 two weeks ago and dropped a 13-7 defensive struggle with Mission Hills last week. Valley Center came into the game with one loss but ended up winning a 16-13 defensive slugfest. David Last kicked a 25-yard field goal with 58 seconds to play to provide the margin of victory. ... Valley Center's defense has been the stingiest scoring defense in the North County this season, allowing just 8.6 points per game. Ramona's offense has been among the most prolific, putting up 34.6 points per game. The Bulldogs like to pound it out with a run-based attack featuring Ryan Morgan (1,015 yards, 13 TDs) and Tyler Jackson (635 yards, 12 TDs). Senior quarterback Erik Ernst averages just over 100 yards passing per game. His big-play target is Seth Drake (23.5 yards per catch, 4 TDs), who is also a starting safety (three interceptions). ... Stanton Upson is the North County's busiest running back with 222 attempts, an average of just under 32 carries per game, and ranks second with 1,241 rushing yards. ... Jaguars DE Tom Jauregui (seven sacks) and cornerback Tommy Aguillar (three interceptions) are part of an aggressive defense that has allowed the opposition as many as 10 points just twice this season.

The Patriots have moved Eric Cruz from defensive end to middle linebacker.

San Marcos coach Robert Cendro said the Sundevils use James in a variety of ways. "They split him out, put him in the slot, throw the screen to him," Cendro said. "He makes something out of nothing. He is a fast guy you have to contain." ... Mt. Carmel LB Garrett Fritch will be a key to slowing down San Marcos' triple-option.

Broncos junior QB Devin Saunders has thrown for 945 yards thanks to sound pass protection and a good group of receivers led by Evan Mattern, a 6-foot-2 junior who has 16 receptions for 302 yards and two TDs. ...
