PREP FOOTBALL: North falls short in Spanos Classic

SAN DIEGO ---- It wasn't the best of nights for Mikey Head, his North team lost 10-6 in the Alex Spanos All-Star Football Classic on Friday at Patrick Henry High, but he earned some respect and picked up a trophy to boot.

PREPS: College commitments from the 2008-09 school year

More than 250 North County high school and junior college athletes have committed to play next season at four-year schools of all levels - from NCAA Division I to NAIA. Following is a list of commitments as submitted by area athletic directors, coaches and sports information directors:

PREPS: Gaffney named top boys athlete in state

Tyler Gaffney, a football and baseball star who recently graduated from Cathedral Catholic High, was named the state boys athlete of the year by Cal-Hi Sports on Saturday.
