Looks like the Padres are trading hands, with Jeff Moorad taking over for John Moores. With a new owner coming to town, staff writer Jay Paris offers five suggestions.
5. Eliminate Death Valley
Good luck securing a solid free-agent hitter with right-center field being the place where line drives and fly balls go to die. Scoot in the fence or rename it Cox Cemetery.
4. Sink suds prices
Come on -- $8.50 for a Coors Light in this economy? Fans are used to getting soaked at games, but bring this down a quarter or two and watch the patrons toast the fresh owner.
3. Infield practice
Baseball pursuits like nothing more than a crisp infield/outfield drill before the game. Return this long-honored tradition and more people just might show up early.
2. See the light
Day games usually draw just as well -- or better -- than their midweek night brethren. Go green and schedule more games under the stunning San Diego sun. Just think of the electricity to be saved.
1. Keep Jake
Jake Peavy was born and raised -- baseball-wise -- a Padre. Shedding him before he continues an All-Star career is foolish and a good way to rub fans the wrong way. Keep Peavy and build around him.
