James Baker scored 17 and led four other starters in double figures as the Calvin Christian High boys basketball team cruised to a 69-46 victory Thursday over Bloomington Christian in the Knight Time Classic at Ontario Christian High.
Thomas Donovan (13 points), Kevin Prins (12), Tom Roberts (11), Justin Tam (10), all paced the Crusaders.
Calvin Christian (4-6) jumped out to a 17-4 lead after one quarter, but Bloomington Christian cut the deficit to nine at the half. After the break, the Crusaders proceeded to shoot 17-of-26 from the field and outscore their opponent 43-24.
"It was like two different games," said Kevin Veenstra, Calvin Christian's first-year coach. "I really was happy to get the balanced scoring."
Baker scored 12 of his points in the second half on 6-of-6 shooting.
Woods leads Jags
Senior guard Curtis Woods canned all four of Valley Center's 3-pointers en route to a game-high 20 points in a 65-52 win over Canoga Park in the National Prep Classic at San Dieguito High.
Daniel Stedman had 19 points and nine rebounds and Ryan Ness chipped in 13 points and eight rebounds for the Jaguars.
Valley Center (5-6) trailed 15-13 after one quarter, but it took the lead in the second period and never looked back.
Woods, a four-year starter for the Jaguars, held Canoga Park's top scorer (Maurice Neal) to one field goal in the second half.
