Writing Competition
Words on art in support of the San Diego Art Prize  

Writers are invited to pen their observations about San Diego Art Prize recipients: Raul Guerrero & Yvonne Venegas, Jean Lowe & Iana Quesnell, Ernest Silva & May-ling Martinez, whose work will be featured at the “Innocence is Questionable” museum exhibition, March 1 - May 31, 2008, at the California Center for the Arts, Escondido, 340 N. Escondido Blvd., Escondido CA 92025

Writers may submit one original piece (maximum 800 words) of their choice about the exhibition. Writing may focus on one of the artists in the exhibit, one of the art works, one of the mentored pairs, or the entire scope of the exhibit.

This competition will be open to all writers and entries may be in any format, including —  but not limited to — prose in the form of general interest articles, critique, reviews and/or poetry. Creative writing will be encouraged in all formats. The judges for this competition are Laura Groch, NCT features editor, Pam Kragen, NCT entertainment editor, Gary Warth, NCT features writer.

PLEASE NOTE: Due to a technical "glitch" we may not have received your entry for the Vision to Page writing competition. If you did submit an entry, please call Laurie Brindle at 760.740.5479 or re-submit online. Because of this situation, the deadline of the contest has been extended to FRIDAY, MAY 9TH. We apologize for any inconvenience

ELIGIBILITY:
Writers living in San Diego and Southwest Riverside counties, and Baja Norte, Mexico, who are either:

1. Junior Writers (18 years or younger)
2. Young/Adult Writers

AWARDS:

  • JUNIOR WRITERS — $100 prize, courtesy of the San Diego Visual Arts Network, and entry published in the North County Times.  Also, two internships at the San Diego Visual Arts Network will be available to selected writers.
  • ADULT WRITERS — $300 prize, courtesy of the San Diego Visual Arts Network, and entry published in the North County Times. Winner will have an opportunity to write a series of articles for the San Diego Visual Arts Network.

Please note: Family members and employees of SDVAN, CCAE and NCT are not eligible to enter. Decision of the judges is final. Entries will be made online only and notice will be given to the winners by e-mail and posted on SDVAN and in the North County Times. North County Times and SDVAN reserves the right to reprint any of the entries.

ENTRY REQUIREMENT:
  • One original entry per person, please. There is no entry fee.
  • Writing should be submitted to the North County Times by FRIDAY, MAY 9TH.
  • Please complete all contact information requested on the entry form.
  • All submissions become the property of the North County Times, which has permission to reprint submission with no payment to entrants. No work will be returned so please save copies of all submissions. Decisions of the judges are final.
